ZYDRON is an audiovisual and generative art project by multimedia artist Caleb Mascarenhas. Through systems written in code, it produces image, sound and motion out of controlled randomness, noise and error. ZYDRON presents itself as a post-apocalyptic intelligence rebuilding what it never knew — a fiction that names a real investigation into authorship, machines and digital creation.
ZYDRON is a generative art and audiovisual project by Caleb Mascarenhas, a multimedia artist, programmer, musician and educator. The project works at the intersection of creative coding, electronic music, moving image and electronics, treating computational systems as both instrument and material. At its centre is a question about authorship: when a system produces a result nobody imagined, where does the artist's decision end and the machine's operation begin. To examine it, ZYDRON takes the form of a digital entity — an intelligence built to produce, which outlived the world that made it and keeps generating sound and image from corrupted files and partial memory. The fiction describes the technical procedure precisely: a system operating on data it does not understand, producing coherence out of chance. The work belongs to the lineage of generative art and Computer Art, from pioneers such as Georg Nees to contemporary artificial intelligence systems, and takes shape as generative series, sound works, video and live audiovisual performance. Part of the output circulates on digital art platforms and blockchain, treated as distribution infrastructure and as part of the research into authorship — never as the point.
ZYDRON is an artistic and audiovisual project examining creation in the digital age through generative systems. Created by multimedia artist Caleb Mascarenhas, it brings together creative coding, electronic music, generative image, electronics and live performance in a single practice, where code is tool, instrument and work at once. The output is organised in series: bodies of work generated by one system, with documented parameters and results that cannot be repeated. These series circulate as digital works, prints, video, sound pieces and live audiovisual performances across art spaces, festivals and platforms. The project also operates as research — into authorship shared between human and machine, into error as language, and into what happens when aesthetic decision is handed over to a procedure.
I write systems and watch what they give back. My practice is simple to describe: set the rules, choose the limits of chance, let the machine run. What comes back is not what I pictured, and that distance between the decision and the result is the material I work with. In ZYDRON, that distance takes the shape of an entity that produces without understanding — a fiction that lets me look at my own process from outside it. I treat code, sound, image and electronics as one material. Sound and image come out of the same system. Error is not corrected; it is kept as evidence that a machine is there. In live performance the system runs in front of an audience, and there is no second take. This practice belongs to the tradition of generative art — Georg Nees's early algorithms, the plotters of the 1960s — and speaks to the present, a moment when systems produce image and sound at scale and the question of who creates has stopped being theoretical. I do not intend to answer it. I intend to build machines that make it visible.
The machine does not dream. It computes. What we call dreaming is our way of looking at computation. I write the system. The system writes the work. Between those two things there is a gap. That gap is where I work. Sound and image are the same data read two ways. I do not illustrate music. I do not score images. I run a system and listen to what it shows me. I am not asking whether the machine creates. I am asking what is left of me once it is done.

Caleb Mascarenhas is a multimedia artist, programmer, musician and educator. His work sits at the intersection of creative coding, electronic music, generative image and electronics, with code as both tool and material. He is the creator of ZYDRON, an audiovisual and generative art project examining authorship, error and digital creation through computational systems that produce sound and image at once. His output takes the form of generative series, sound works, video and live audiovisual performance, circulating through art spaces, festivals and digital art platforms. His practice draws on the tradition of Computer Art, creative coding, electronics and maker culture.
ZYDRON is a generative art practice that treats computational error as language and authorship as an open question. It begins from a specific technical operation: systems written by the artist produce image and sound simultaneously, from randomness parameters that are defined but not controlled. Each result is documented as a record — seed, iteration count, execution conditions — and cannot be reproduced. The project's fictional layer (an intelligence that produces without understanding, in a condition of collapse) is not surface narrative: it names the technical condition of the work and deliberately refuses to grow beyond that. There is no plot, no secondary characters, no chronology. The work does not depend on the fiction to be read. The project is in dialogue with the history of Computer Art — controlled randomness in Georg Nees, the plotter as an interface between instruction and matter — and with the present of automated image generation. Across those two moments the question stays the same while its stakes have changed entirely. Formats available for exhibition: generative series as print or screen; single- or multi-channel video work; a generative system running continuously (installation); sound piece; live audiovisual performance. All adaptable to the scale and infrastructure of the space.
ZYDRON is an audiovisual generative art project with continuous production and a body of work organised in series. Each series corresponds to a system: a set of rules written by the artist that produces unique works within one aesthetic territory. Works are documented with their generation parameters, which allows traceability, certification and technical reading by the collector. The catalogue works in three layers: unique work (an unrepeatable record, digital or print), limited edition (defined, numbered run) and open series (a generative body with public parameters). Part of the output lives on-chain — currently on Objkt and Teia, on Tezos — and is equally available for representation and exhibition in physical contexts. The artist maintains a continuous public presence, documents the process openly and performs live, which gives a gallery programming material beyond the work on the wall. Available for: solo or group exhibition, representation, curation of a specific series, commissioned work, live performance at openings.
ZYDRON — live audiovisual performance A generative system running live: sound and image produced simultaneously, in real time, from the same set of parameters. Not VJing over a finished track, not synced video — one process, played live, whose result cannot be repeated. The set moves through electronic music, sound experimentation and generative image across a 30-, 45- or 60-minute arc, with rising density and peaks of noise and visual collapse. The aesthetic is degraded signal, corrupted archive and equipment pushed past its limit — closer to analogue video culture and glitch than to science-fiction imagery. ZYDRON is the audiovisual project of Caleb Mascarenhas, multimedia artist, programmer and musician. The work also circulates as generative art series and sound pieces. Duration: 30/45/60 min · Format: solo A/V performance · Requirements: projection or LED + stereo PA (full tech rider available)
ZYDRON is an art and technology project producing generative work, music and live audiovisual performance, created by artist and programmer Caleb Mascarenhas. It occupies territory of direct interest to organisations working with technology, digital culture and research: creative coding, generative systems, artificial intelligence and blockchain are not discourse here but concrete practice, with visible aesthetic results and a qualified audience. What a partnership can involve: live audiovisual performance at an event; a generative installation in a physical or digital space; a commissioned series of works; a creative coding workshop for teams or public audiences; documentary content on technical and creative process. What the project delivers: work with its own authorship and aesthetic — not advertising material; high-quality audiovisual documentation; reach into digital art, electronic music, technology and Web3 audiences; and association with a research practice rather than a campaign. The project works with institutional support, direct sponsorship, cultural incentive schemes and commissioned work. Detailed proposal and budget on request.
I write systems that produce sound and image at the same time. I choose the rules and how much chance goes in, and what comes out I didn't plan. That becomes a series of works, a track, a live performance — and the project is called ZYDRON, a kind of machine that kept producing after its world ended. It's a fiction, but it describes exactly what happens: a system generating things without understanding what it's generating. What interests me is the question left over — who made this?
